Doge’s Palace
From February 24th to May 6th 2012
In the first exhibition, dedicated to Celebrations at the Doge’s Palace, the protagonists will be the fine prints drawn by Canaletto and engraved by Giambattista Brustolon. The prints themselves are well-known even to the general public, but their specific interest here lies in the fact that most of the subjects show scenes within the Doge’s Palace. Moreover, they will be shown alongside the original copper plates (today conserved in the Museo Correr) from which they were printed between 1768, year of the first edition published by Lodovico Furlanetto, and the mid-19th century. These wonderful graphic works perfectly illustrate institutional Venetian life and were widely distributed around Europe.
