The Fondazione
Twelve museums, one grand narrative: from the majesty of the Doge’s Palace, embodying the historical and civic memory of the city, to the Correr Museum, and the artistic expressions of modernity at Ca’ Pesaro – International Gallery of Modern Art; through the refined craftsmanship of the Murano Glass Museum, the intricate lacework of the Burano Lace Museum and the artifacts and works from the Torcello Museum, to the naturalistic and scientific collections of the Natural History Museum «Giancarlo Ligabue», which tell the story of life on Earth, the 18th-century heritage of Ca’ Rezzonico, and the theatrical memories at Carlo Goldoni’s House. Continuing with the world of perfumes, textiles, and fashion at the Palazzo Mocenigo Museum, the eclectic and sophisticated Fortuny Museum, and culminating in the architectural, technical, and engineering masterpiece of the Clock Tower.
A unique museum network that houses over 700,000 works, five specialized libraries, a photographic archive, and a well-equipped storage facility at Vega Stock in Marghera.
Since 2008, The Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE) has safeguarded, managed, and enhanced this immense heritage, with a constant eye on the future. A dynamic and multifaceted organization, it goes beyond conservation to embrace education, research, cultural production, and the creation of events that engage with the local community and its visitors.
Today, the MUVE network is enriched by new synergies: in Mestre, two important partnerships have been established with the Candiani Cultural Center and Forte Marghera, while in December 2024, a new contemporary art project opened at the former Newspaper Archive of Piazza Ferretto, now known as the Emeroteca dell’Arte, with 13 artist studios and a literary café. Meanwhile, Palaplip is set to become a new space for culture and innovation.
A private foundation entrusted with the management of a public heritage, MUVE is fully self-financed in all its activities. It is overseen by a Board of Directors and led by President Mariacristina Gribaudi, with Luigi Brugnaro, the Mayor of Venice, as Vice President, Mattia Agnetti as General Manager, and Chiara Squarcina as Scientific Director.
