BASIC GLASS FUSING AND CASTING COURSE

This course allows participants to come into contact with casting and glass fusing techniques and to give free rein to their creativity. The first part will be dedicated to theoretical concepts regarding fusion techniques and heat treatments. Participants, supervised by the Glass School’s master glassmaker, will first create a paper project of their work, which they will then reproduce “cold” using glass powder, frits, and glass rods. They will then bring everything to life using the ancient method of glass fusing, and then, after cooling, take the finished object home with them. At the end of the course, there will be the customary visit to the Murano Glass Museum, which will provide an overview of the history of glass and the various artistic techniques.

- Introduction to the course
- Safety concepts
- Knowledge of glass material, furnace structure, and tools necessary for processing
- Technical concepts on casting
- Casting design, creation of clay model, creation of plaster mold
- Fundamental technical concepts on glass fusing: cutting, assembly, firing
- Design, planning, and creation of two artifacts using different techniques
- Concepts on thermoforming
COURSE DURATION
20 hours, from Monday to Thursday from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM; Friday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
PARTICIPATION TERMS
The lessons are conducted in English and Italian, and no prior specific knowledge is required.
Registration for each of the courses will be done individually: you can sign up for all of them or just one of the three. Each module will be activated with a minimum of 5 enrollees up to a maximum of 10 participants.

Registrations are accepted in the order they are received. Upon reaching the minimum number of participants, the reservation service will communicate the activation of the course and the payment methods.
COSTS
The cost of each module varies based on the number of participants:
5 – 7 participants: 610 euros per participant
1 – 4 participants: 960 euros per participant
1 participant: 1580 euros
The fee includes:
- use of the equipment and materials provided by the Istituto Abate Zanetti for the creation of the piece and for laboratory practice
- access to the furnaces and workshops
- guided tour of the Murano Glass Museum at the end of the course
