BASIC LAMPWORKING COURSE

The course intends to provide an overview of lampworking techniques, which consist of manipulating glass rods softened with a thin, adjustable flame on a well-defined area to form an object. The most well-known products made for centuries in Venice using this type of processing are beads: thanks to this course, it will be possible to experiment and create your own personal glass beads with various decorations! The visit to the Murano Glass Museum will mark the conclusion of the course.
COURSE DURATION
20 hours, from Monday to Thursday from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM; Friday from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
PROGRAM
- Introductory notes to the course
- Concepts on the history of lampworking
- Concepts on safety and the correct use of the torch and processing tools
- Raw materials: glass, rods, canes, aventurine
- Design and planning
- Creation of solid-colored and floral-decorated beads
- Introduction to advanced techniques and practice: beads with inserted murrine, encased beads with gold or silver leaf, mosaic beads, blown beads.
PARTICIPATION TERMS
The lessons are conducted in English and Italian, and no prior specific knowledge is required.
Registration for each of the courses will be done individually: you can sign up for all of them or just one of the three. Each module will be activated with a minimum of 5 enrollees up to a maximum of 10 participants.

Registrations are accepted in the order they are received. Upon reaching the minimum number of participants, the reservation service will communicate the activation of the course and the payment methods.
COSTS
The cost of each module varies based on the number of participants:
5 – 7 participants: 610 euros per participant
1 – 4 participants: 960 euros per participant
1 participant: 1580 euros
The fee includes:
- use of the equipment and materials provided by the Istituto Abate Zanetti for the creation of the piece and for laboratory practice
- access to the furnaces and workshops
- guided tour of the Murano Glass Museum at the end of the course
